First it was a crazy thought… Then it became a crazy idea. We researched, we pondered, we tried things out. And now, now we want to implement it. Music, cardboard, car – a mobile home with cardboard furniture – CarTon!
A car interior made of cardboard. A crazy idea? There are companies, especially in France, that make cardboard furniture. Here in Germany it is slowly becoming a trend – and even well-known furniture manufacturers use cardboard as a “plywood” substitute.
There is a lot of cardboard and cardboard in the garbage, you must be able to use it? So we take up the challenge. A little, not to be typical, a little because we like the challenge, a little because it is recycling and a little because we want to prove that it works! We have tinkered, tested, tried and now we believe in it. We build our Nito with cardboard!
The result is impressive!
What are the advantages and disadvantages for such an expansion?

Our conclusion: Through our tests we have found that with the right construction method the cardboard construction is very stable. This can be improved with the right gluing technique. In addition, we can eliminate the moisture problems by masking the edges and coating. We tested the furniture after two weeks in total humidity and we were still able to stand on it without it breaking in. The fact that the modules are light makes it very attractive. Not only for the fuel consumption, but also because we constantly carry the furniture in and out of the car. The costs are very low. Thus, the furniture cost us less than 300 €. The shock sensitivity can be neglected a little bit by simple repairs and the durability can be extended. We think it’s a different material, are excited about the unexpected stability and we will try it and report here…
