Nito – a Naturalia-bus for all cases

On May 22, 2018, it will start. @bee and I start with the night train from Frankfurt to Innsbruck, to change there, still sleepy and hardly rested, to the completely overcrowded regional train to Bozen. Standing was the order of the day. All the effort to finally arrive in Bozen at 12 o’clock and hurry to the Naturalia. Here he stood…

Nito

  • 1 radio…
  • 4 wheels…
  • 9 seats…
  • 110 PS…

-the new Honeycombcompanion. The joy was great, the music loud, the jump high and the ride unique. We enjoyed the driving feeling, the loud music in the beautiful South Tyrol.

Nito: Naturalia Italia is cool

But as big as the joy was and as beautiful as the first 100 km with Nito within South Tyrol have been, as sad it became when @bee entered the parking lot and it suddenly stuttered. No more gas, only crunching and Nito did not move anymore.  Over and out. Nothing worked anymore.

Great chaos was the order of the day. Holiday and the pressure now actually on the way home to be, led to it the @bee now much at the telephone hung, in order to find a workshop, which could look at Nito times. It was a big back and forth until a garage agreed to take a look at the VW bus. But the hoped-for help was not there, just a shaking head and the statement that it had to be something really big. So Nito was towed away directly to be inspected more closely.

24 hours passed, we made ourselves comfortable, hoping for the best. But even time brought no healing, only the certainty that the timing belt had broken. Consequential damage cannot yet be estimated. From repair to total loss, everything is included. We keep our fingers crossed and keep on feverishly…

Meanwhile we start back to Frankfurt and wait and see what the workshop says. 3 weeks later everything is fit again, the engine is running again and because the bus is in such a good condition, the repair was worth it. Nito is just waiting to be picked up by us and that the adventures can finally begin.

the interior

It goes to the inside, we have to know from which wood or metal our new friend is carved. A whole day we take the little one apart. The cladding is removed. The lights are removed and the rubber floor is removed. Besides a lot of dirt we find understanding for the face behind the mask. We have never unscrewed a car before, let alone a real idea of the construction and technique of a car or a camper. We have to learn everything, have no knowledge, experience or special tools. But courage! So we try this and it works!

The cover can be carefully levered open with a slotted screwdriver. The plastic screws with plugs can be unscrewed somehow with a hexagon wrench, but it was no problem with the screwdriver and we could recycle all parts. The plastic cover can be pulled away with light pulling and a little bit of force, because all parts are also pressed on with pressure and plastic connections. With caution and step-by-step it works quite well. The bottom is screwed tight and can be loosened with the appropriate attachment. The first tool part we buy. There is a lot of dirt underneath, but otherwise everything is in a very good condition. Only the rear light is broken, because the wire connection from the cable to the lamp breaks off if we carelessly remove it from the fairing. I solder this back on at home and everything is working again. We have an idea and we can start researching and planning. We measure out and put up some furniture with a cardboard box to see where what could go…

Push the boxes a little bit and test how it might look
